Health History

1upHealth’s Health History mobile responsive web app allows for an effortless way to access 1upHealth’s FHIR APIs from over 7,000 supported health systems. App developers can use this flow to help patients instantly connect to health systems — enabling an automated log-in process to authorize access to their electronic medical records.

What will the patient workflow be?

    The patient will then search for the hospital name they have their medical records stored in. This will be done via our Provider Search UI. This can be embedded as an iframe in your existing workflows or you can create a custom search leveraging our API endpoints yourself.

    Once the patient locates their hospital, they will be asked to enter their patient portal credentials. If they do not have patient portal credentials, the hospital will instruct the patient on how to create them.

    After the patient portal credentials are entered, the patient can authorize any 3rd party app access to their electronic medical records (pictured above). This patient authorization is enabled by ONC’s 21st Century Cures Act.
Note: If the patient has medical records in multiple hospitals, they will have to authorize that access from each hospital.
This patient authorization flow is enabled via ONC’s 21st Century Cures Act. The ONC 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule is focused on empowering patients by making it easier for them to access their electronic healthcare information.
Patients will be able to allow third party apps to access their health data through a secure process called OAuth 2. The idea behind this is that in the same way that consumers currently choose reputable banking or travel apps to share their information with, they'll now be able to exercise that same judgement and freedom to share their electronic medical records.

What type of EHR data will I receive?

Once the patient authorizes the 3rd party app access to their electronic medical records, the data can be delivered via our FHIR APIs as read-only. The FHIR resources you will be able to access include patient demographics, prescriptions, doctor notes, allergens, and more.

What if I only want specific data instead of the entire patient authorized medical record?

Can I delete the patient authorized data?

Yes, you can delete any FHIR resource or version from the FHIR history endpoint. For instructions on how to FHIR delete.
